International Symphony Orchestra
opens 2010/2011
Changing Times – A Farewell Season
with
From the exciting
world premičre of Charles Liu’s kaleidoscopic Carnival Overture, to the
hauntingly ethereal strains of the familiar New World Symphony by Dvořŕk, this
stunning “Start of the Season” Celebration will showcase “All Things New”.
This poignant, Farewell Season, marks the end of the tremendously successful tenure of popular Maestro, Jerome David Summers. Mr. Summers will take the podium to open and close the performance year, with finalist candidates conducting the remaining concerts.
All Things New will be presented on Saturday, October 16th, 7:30 p.m., in the Port Huron Northern Performing Arts Centre, and Sunday, October 17th, 3:00 p.m., in the Imperial Theatre, Sarnia. The Sarnia concert is being sponsored by Freedom 55 Financial, a division of London Life.
Guest artist, Toronto Symphony Orchestra violinist Arkady Yanivker, will be featured in a dramatic interpretation of the lyrical Prokofiev Concerto for Violin, No. 2. Unlike the witty glitter of his First Violin Concerto, the second, composed in 1935, portrays a warm, romantic spirit; eliciting deep emotional responses within the listener.
In much demand as a
violin soloist and ensemble performer, Mr. Yanivker’s first major solo
appearance was at the age of thirteen with
the Odessa Symphony Orchestra in the U.S.S.R. After his graduation, he
performed both as a chamber musician and solo violinist, throughout the concert
halls of Russia, subsequently becoming the concertmaster of the Novosibirsk
Opera and Ballet Theatre.
Mr. Yanivker came to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in 1978, becoming well known on the music scene as a violin soloist and chamber player. His concert performances in Canada have been heard on CBC, CMFX, and CJRT radio broadcasts.
During his tenure as a member of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, he served as concertmaster of the Toronto Philharmonia Orchestra, and guest concertmaster for the Kitchener Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Huntsville Festival Orchestra, and the New Canadian Chamber Orchestra. His Canadian and European performances have received outstanding reviews: "...impressive exploration of versatile potential of the violin... brilliant technique, truly virtuosic performance..." (Durier Lubelski), and "...the many memorable moments were Yanivker’s dominant violin..." (The Toronto Star).
The Sunday, October 17th Season Opener is sponsored by Freedom 55 Financial, a division of London Life Insurance Company.
