Youth String Ensembles - Welcome New Members

The International Symphony Orchestra welcomes young string players throughout the county to participate in its Youth Ensembles.  Violinists, violists, cellists and bassists of all levels are invited. The first rehearsal of the New Year will take place on Tuesday, January 17, 5:45p.m. in Room 60, Fine Arts Building, St. Clair County Community College, Port Huron.  A modest fee applies, but scholarship assistance is available if required.
Ensembles are under the direction of International Symphony Orchestra cellist Barbara Armstrong. Born in Australia, Barbara began her cello studies at the age of eleven years. She received her Bachelor of Music in performance from the University of Regina, and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Western Ontario. Her teachers have included Raymond Hoffman in Regina, Daniel Domb, principal cellist with the Toronto Symphony, Professor Herzbruch, Cologne, Germany and Malcolm Tait, formerly of London Ontario. Ms. Armstrong has served as principal cellist with the International Symphony Orchestra since 1982, having been featured as soloist on many occasions. She has played professionally with the orchestras in Regina, Saskatoon, Windsor, London, and with the Canadian Opera Company.
Currently, she maintains a private teaching studio, performs with various chamber ensembles, and is a teacher with the St. Clair District School Board.
International Symphony Orchestra violinist, Deborah Smith, will be returning as assistant director.
